Apple ProVideo Formats 2.2.1 Removes Avid Media Composer ProRes Options in Quicktime Export

It looks like the update of Apple ProVideo Formats version 2.2.1 removes Avid MC ProRes codec options in Quicktime Export.

That's not good. There are only a few options left for Quicktime export codecs in AMC now, and ProRes is nowhere to be seen:

Many more options were available in the previous iteration of ProVideo Formats 2.1.1.

It is still available as a stand alone installer on Apple: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2020?locale=en_US

But after downloading, when I try to downgrade/install to version 2.1.1, I get this message:

Of course, no way to downgrade... Then I found this thread on the Avid Forums.

It did point to this workaround for pepps who don't have FCP/Motion/Compressor installed, I do though. I went and downloaded Pacifist anyway.

I opened Apple ProVideoFormats.pkg installer (v 2.1.1.) with Pacifist and saw the five Quicktime components that are missing in my computer's Library:

I then selected only these, drag-and-dropped them into my computer's Library/Quicktime folder. Since AMC is accessing the Quicktime components for its own export settings, I thought no need to mess with the rest.

Pacifist installed them. Now I have the missing v2.1.1. Components into the Quicktime folder with the v 2.2.1. ones, and Avid's own:

I flagged them in RED just in case they start causing some problems and I need to remove them at some point. Again all the rest I left untouched, Apple ProVideo Formats v 2.2.1 is complete on my computer, I only manually added the old, missing, v 2.1.1. QT components.

Now when I Export to Quicktime from Avid, I have again all the variety of codecs, including ProRes:

Yay! Hopefully this workaround doesn't cause any conflicts down the line. I will report here if it does. In the meantime, back to exporting!

Missing Sound Effects in Final Cut Pro

Out of the blue Sound Effects have gone missing in Final Cut Pro.

The sounds are still on the computer where they belong: /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Final Cut Pro Sound Effects.

Several users have complained in past years and no real solution have been offered. Even some people went to the length of trashing all prefs, trashing the sound package, re-downloading the sounds, re-installing FCP... To no avail, the stuff of nightmares.

I found that closing all FCP Libraries and creating a new FCP Library... Boom! The Sound Effects appeared all of the sudden. From there, re-opening my working project, closing the empty newly created Library, and yes the Sound Effects are still there.

There is a glitch somewhere that makes Sound Effects disappear and re-appear. At least this workaround works for me.

I also noticed that the Photos folder was also missing altogether from the list. It showed only Logic Pro X, iTunes and Sound Effects (empty.) After the "re-trigger" move described above, the Photos folder re-appeared.

Sound Effects folder populated. Photos folder back at top of the list.

After Upgrading Adobe Premiere Pro CC Version 13.0 (October 15, 2018), Do Rescan and Enable Audio Plug-ins

For those of you upgrading to the new Premiere CC available today Oct 15, 2018, remember to Scan and Enable your Audio Plug-ins.

I use Audio Filters bundled with Premiere and I also use a bunch of Audio Units plug-ins from macOS (AU) and plug-ins from different vendors (AU, VST.)

When updating Premiere, all non-Adobe plug-ins are disabled by default, which might lead to a "Audio Filter Missing" message on loading a previous Project:
I had a missing Audio Filter in my Project, showing as "Offline".
Turns out, the missing Filter is the AU Multiband Compressor, which is a macOS Audio Filter. (I still have the previous version of Premiere and I opened my original Project to see what was missing.)

With this confirmation, this is how to turn these plug-ins back on:
Go to Premiere Pro/Preferences/Audio. Click on Audio Plug-in Manager.
Click on Scan for Plug-ins, and then click Enable All (or select plug-ins individually) and Click OK.

That's it! Now all your "external" audio plug-ins will appear in Premiere Pro Audio Filters Menu.

FCPX Missing Plug-in (Effect) difficult to track down - pt5 (X-FX Handler)

Couldn't hunt this missing Effect down, so I downloaded X-FX Handler from Spherico: http://www.spherico.com/filmtools/X-Files/X-FXHandler/

Exported an XML of the Project, loaded it into X-FX Handler, and Kaboom!
Look at this missing Hawaiki Effect! FASLE! That's right! But, but, hold on a second... That's fine and dandy, but WHERE CAN I FIND IT IN THE TIMELINE?

Ah! Ah! Here is the secret weapon: double click on the missing Effect and Kabaaahm!
It's enabled on CLIP0000180 - THAT I CAN SEARCH FOR IN THE INDEX.

Three Clip0000180 in my Timeline indeed, and the third one wins the missing Effect prize.
(It was actually OFF!) Delete. Good riddance.

Thank you Andreas Kiel, Spherico.

FCPX Missing Plug-in (Effect) difficult to track down - pt4

Here we are again at this topic: how to ID and find missing Effects, Titles and Transitions in FCPX? An ongoing battle.

See my two previous rants here:
http://humanuser.blogspot.com/2015/05/apple-has-to-make-it-easy-to-find.html
https://humanuser.blogspot.com/2017/02/missing-effects-and-titles-in-final-cut.html

Allright, so I discovered by inadvertence that FCPX (10.3.4) is giving SOME hints as to what is missing if you select the Project in the Browser, it will show SOME information.
Right, right, Hawaiki Color is missing, and Adjustment Layer is missing. That's progress.

It's better than showing this, right?

Unfortunately it doesn't help with finding the missing elements in the Timeline. I would like to jump to the actual place in the Timeline where this or these missing elements are being used and review and/or delete them. But I can't. Well for Titles, yes I can since I can isolate Titles in the Index.

So if there is already Titles listed in the Index, it's not too much asking that all other Effects, Generators and Transitions be added to the list, is it? And maybe it's not too much asking that any missing element be FLAGGED in the Index list, is it?

Thank you Apple.

FCPX Missing Plug-in (Effect) difficult to track down - pt2

Please Apple make it easy to find a missing Effect or Transition in FCPX.

I'm spending hours pulling my hair and agonizing. It's just untenable having only an exclamation mark over the Event icon to alert you that something is missing.
Some Title is missing...

Some Effect is missing...

Nothing pointing at the culprit Project or Compound Clip. Where to search without a clue?

How about a Timeline tab showing missing Effects? Or make searching for Effects, or missing Effects available in the Browser.

At least missing Media is easy to spot, and then to fix using the Relink Missing Media Files.

How about a Relink Missing Effects Files?

Apple has to make it easy to find missing Effect or Transition. If you think like me, please send your feedback to Apple:

Update:

Ah, ah! maybe this tool can help:
